I was seeking services for counseling. My insurance company and employer offer EAP services. I checked Cignas website and it listed one of the drs as taking EAP and Cigna insurance. I called to schedule (and talk to someone) and their machine says to fill out the request an appointment form. I go online and I do this explaining I am looking for counseling services for my son, I have EAP and Cigna insurance, and Im looking for someone who can see him in person as my son is most comfortable with that.
I receive a call back and the person asks for my sons name, which I provide. Then she says okay thanks and Im like wait I dont understand- dont we need to set an appointment and she says youll get an email and I ask again I dont understand an email for the appointment? And she says did you give us your insurance information? And Im like no you didnt ask for it. She asks if I filled it out on line and I try to explain again how THEIR website works. She then got frustrated with me telling me that I first have to give my insurance information and so then I try to ask about the EAP piece and she is just telling me Ill get an email instead of trying to help me understand what the heck is going on. I tell her nevermind Ill just go somewhere else. Then someone else calls me minutes later. I once again explain what I tried to tell the other person and shes not being anymore helpful. Then she tells me EAP is done differently and I need to call my EAP to find out what to do - I try to explain my EAP gave me a code and told me to call and schedule an appointment. Then she tells me the dr my insurance company shows as eap is not in fact an eap provider. I advised she should let the insurance companies know that. I then say forget EAP - but she tells me that counselor only does virtual so I ask if there is anyone there who sees someone in person and takes Cigna. She says yes but then tells me to book online - I dont see where because to request an appointment you fill out a form which I did. I finally just said forget it and I will go somewhere else.
We wonder why mental health is so terrible in this country and it might just be because companies like this make getting help incredibly impossible and hire people who care nothing at all about the clients they are talking to.
Edit to add: I did not EVER once curse or call anyone a name. So not only is your staff awful, they are liars. I spoke to them at my desk at work surrounded by others. There is no way I could have raised my voice or cursed without risking my own job (nor would I do).
