Also referred to as organizational socialization, the employee onboarding process describes the processes by which a new employee is imparted will the necessary knowledge, behavior, and skills needed to function as part of the whole effectively. Whether you are in the office snack delivery industry or any other service industry, the onboarding process is critical. The following seven tips will help improve the employee onboarding process.
1. Be Transparent
Transparency is a primary key during the onboarding process. During this period, the new hire is familiarized with the company culture, so the impression must be dynamic. Before the new hire’s first day, have someone call or email the employee to explain the onboarding process, and what will be expected of them. This will eliminate delays and potential headaches.
2. Create Checklists
Checklists are perfect for outlining a process and making sure every step is carried out. Creating an onboarding checklist will demonstrate that there is a clear direction for the procedure. Creating an internal list will ensure that the office staff completes all necessary activities before the new employee’s first day.
3. Make Help Available
Starting a new job can be a stressful experience. Nervousness may make a new employee feel reluctant to ask for help if they are not sure who to ask. Make sure new employees know where to go when they need help. They should know who to contact and that party’s preferred method of contact.
4. Make New Hires Feel Welcome
Finding ways to make the first day for a new employee special will surely do a great deal to boost the individual’s morale. A welcome gift, such as healthy snacks or a card to showcase the company’s appreciation is appropriate. The primary objective of the onboarding process is to make the new employee comfortable. Think of creative ways to do this.
5. Explain the Company’s Network and Software
It is easy to overlook some minor details like the internal systems network of the office and the protocols of the software being used by the organization. Password assignments should be handled, and training sessions should be scheduled before the employee's first day.

Employees can be of great assistance when it comes to an understanding of the efficiency of the onboarding process. However, if feedback is not encouraged, employees are often not comfortable sharing their experiences and giving their suggestions to improve the overall process.
