image I just want to say this bank has been serving me well for a very long time, and no matter where I went in the country this institution was always there for me. Next year they will be called another name, and I'm sure as of today the new bank will shoot me just the same with honor and respect.

image Ive been a Peoples Bank customer for over 22 years and will never go into that branch again. The bank manager, Sarah, is impossible to work with. Ive been there twice for the same thing and left with anger, confusion and a difficult mission both times. I had to wait for her to come out of her office both times after being screened by the tellers. No smiley, I can help you attitude. I needed a fancy notary stamp and she asked me to practically do the impossible to get one. I tried. I opened an account at another bank... after asking her if I should. I got a stamp without any problems with the paperwork I had . She made me feel as if I was trying to STEAL MY OWN MONEY from another institution. Its at another bank and I want to put it in Peoples United Bank My other relatives got their stamps at their banks with less paperwork ..easy! I will always be stressed and confused about this and wont go back. Im sure she happy about that.
I get that there are rules. I dont think Sarah knows them! Or, is it too much energy to find her stamp? Its just a stamp...I had all the paperwork I needed for someone else to stamp it. I learned my lesson. No local downtown Peoples banking for me.

image Message bodyAfter 12 years my wife and I are leaving peoples bank because we are tired of one patronizing rude tellers treatment, what a smug obnoxious bully. We are handicapped and elderly, it was obvious that she is disrespectful and prejudiced. Fortunately, we have a much better bank in town with people who still are helpful and have manners; and that offers the service of cashing or depositing a 3rd party check by holding it for 11 days. A professional would have said "We are sorry we no longer offer that service." Instead of; "Ha ha ha you can leave now, next". It is ridiculous that a small town bank would demand a federal picture ID to cash or deposit a 50 dollar 3rd party check when we are both standing there and almost everyone in the bank has known us 12 years.  Why did the bully teller take over the nice teller we were talking to and tell us we are not going to cash or deposit that check. (a 50 dollar check from a magazine that accepted my photo) She butted in and like we should know better and are idiots and criminals for trying to do what we have been doing for 12 years at this bank. Why didn't she offer us the forms right away instead of just saying no? At that time, she had no way of knowing my wife hadn't brought ID. Because of predisposed prejudice. Why wouldn't they allow us to take home the form so we could return with them all filled out and with ID?The manager, said that this new policy (policies) has been in effect for a year, so why were we not informed in writing? Why have we been cashing checks for the last year every month? They even refused to cash my wife's OWN CHECK! From Her Peoples United Bank checking account! The teller who is a bully, shoved over the nice teller we were talking to, and said, "I don't have to cash any of your checks if I don't want to!" How can this even be legal! To refuse my wife's money from her own checking account! 12 years we have been at this bank, and they claim to not know us. We do business at least every month with this bank. We have been at same address for 12 years. They are saying the only way my wife can access her money is to purchase a federal ID. Which we do not want to do. I had my drivers license out; I said this is my wife, yet they refused to help her in any way, just the bums rush to the door! We were Shocked! They claimed to not know us even after 12 years, but after dismissing my wife, the bully teller smiled patronizingly and said, "Can I help you Mr. Souza" Then my wife handed the teller my deposit.Furthermore, the bully teller knows us from the drive through, when she refused to cash my wifes check written out to herself, cash, a couple months ago, claiming her writing on the check wasn't good enough. And right afterwards, when we called at 2;30pm to ask the manager a question about switching banks, it rang and rang, then, they'd pick up and hang up, finally after many tries, the only nice teller answered the phone and told us the manager went home at 2;30, on Friday, the day they are open until 6pm. Did i mention a year ago they lost a deposit? We never bothered to contact peoples about it, not worth the aggravation.

image I can say one good thing about People's, which is that the customer service at their Vergennes branch is good.  Other than that, I have had a nightmarish experience using them as my mortgage lender, mainly dealing with their loan processor in Brattleboro but also their rep in Rutland, after the Addison County rep quit a few weeks into our process with them.  They are not responsive; they are incredibly difficult to deal with; they are rude and defensive when dealing with customers who are upset because the most expensive & important transaction of their lives isn't going smoothly; according to our lawyer and realtor they seem way outside industry standard with their requirements (e.g. 48 hours out from closing after we have the clear to close they now need more paperwork that was either sent to them previously or could have been if they'd asked for it two months ago, like the inspection, and they won't allow us to close with a personal property addendum for one piece of furniture even though it was in the contract they've had on file for two months now).I was only lukewarm on my personal banking experience with them due to their poor online interface for ebanking, but after this fiasco I will be closing all my accounts.
