I lived in 550 Abernathy, a Harbor Management company, for two and a half years, so I feel it is my duty to warn the public to NOT live at one of their residences. *Note 550 has since been acquired by a different management group.
Firstly, the apartments/community were not well kept or nice enough for the price. Pay a little more and live in a nice neighborhood, or pay less elsewhere to save money.
Secondly, the staff was awful. They towed both mine and my roommates' cars after not providing us proper parking. One time they threw a trashcan on our long as some kind of petty joke, instead of emailing us to request we put our trash outside in the can for valet (all neighbors removed the bags from the cans and we had done so for years, so we did not know we were in the wrong). This reminds me, they did not send emails ever. You would be lucky to get a notice stuck to your door, which often blew away. This meant they would close the office early without informing residents, and that we missed critical documents, like our notice to terminate the lease. On our move out date they closed the office three hours early without warning, meaning we would have had to pay extra fees for turning in our keys "late".
From a corporate standpoint, they are even worse. The A/C in the gym was broken from July through August last summer. This means residents were forced to workout in 85 degrees with no air flow. The complex did not even provide fans for this huge inconvenience!!! I called corporate and they not only did absolutely nothing to fix the problem, but ratted me out to the leasing agents, who found me later that day and corned me with their golf cart complaining I called corporate. Not once was I offered compensation, for paying for an unusable gym. Someone could have passed out in that gym, I'm sure it is completely against all codes to let a gym get that hot. I wish someone had gotten hurt and sued, to teach Harbor a lesson.
We were so happy once we broke free from Harbor, but wait. We got our final bill in the mail. (Moved out 12/31, Bill printed 1/4, and you had 30 days to pay). Well on the 10th, Harbor sent our bill to a debt collector who started harassing me and my roommate!! I worked it out with that company, so our credit was not affected, but here we have another borderline illegal action from this company!
My hope is this post reaches as many people as possible and I can save you the experience. Best of luck in your apartment search. I am with Post now and love it.
