image Terrible experience. Nefisa  with Cynthia the teachers they were really bad with my daughter she was only 16months but that time. After one year she still talk and pray and asked me why they were so.bad with the kids. I reported with the county. I have to follow up. But please be careful.  Now my daughter is in ACCA  I have to said thank God that I found this sxhool. We are like a family. And my daughter is excellent.

image My son was a student at Kenwood from Kindergarten through 6th Grade. It was a fantastic school, both academically and socially. The school's instructors, administrators, and staff are top notch. They more than prepared my son for the Seventh Grade in the public school system. I highly recommend Kenwood for any parent looking for a quality elementary school program for their child.

image Why it's taken so long to write a review for this school is beyond me. Both of my kids have been enrolled at this school and I couldn't imagine them elsewhere. With my first born, my son, we visited several Montessori type schools that just didn't thrill us. So we opened up the search to look at other schools that had a healthy environment and a genuine sense of nurturing the whole child. And for us, it was important that it wasn't affiliated with any particular religion. So fast forward to us finding Grasshopper Green. The idea of a farmhouse with lots of trees and green space thrilled us, especially when given the location. When we scheduled the initial visit, the school's director asked that we bring our child with us. At the time, he was a couple months shy of three years and had only been cared for by a home-based childcare provider. We walked the grounds, poked our heads into a couple of classrooms, asked our questions (she was by far the most honest when it came to disciplinary procedures and parent communication; we had grown tired of hearing schools dodge the question) and then invited us to leave our son there for a couple of hours while we went for lunch or coffee. I admit we hesitated for a moment before agreeing. The director said that it was the best way to see if it was a good fit and she was absolutely correct. When we returned from our lunch date, our boy was immersed in play with new friends and groaned when we told him we had to go home. The verdict was in.He spent two years there. Every morning, he looked forward to going to school. Not only did he learn the things you want your pre-Kindergartner to learn, but he developed strong bonds with every teacher and staff member there (EVERY teacher and staff member -- both in and outside of his classroom). So when it came time for our daughter to make the transition, there was no other choice. And like our son, she has undergone quite a transformation - exploring her artistic skills and excelling at sciences. All of this is done in a very holistic environment that doesn't impose rigorous standards in place of a child's natural development, curiosity and happiness. Some parents were not happy with picking up their kids to discover that they were watching Dora the Explorer or Finding Nemo. I had no problem with this whatsoever. When you are caring for my kid from 7am - 6pm, I don't want the teacher or the student to be engaged in academics for that entire block of time. Plus, those activities take place after their afternoon nap time when it shifts to aftercare. Tuition is incredibly reasonable. And besides the comfort of knowing your child is safe and learning with caring teachers, they provide hot meals and snacks, host occasional sleepovers and parent night out events, throw wonderful fall festivals, surprise students with treats like sno-cone trucks and build-a-bear type vans and partner with programs in gymnastics and soccer (for additional fees). And I have neglected to mention they have a gigantic playground that is totally shaded by a canopy of trees. With regards to parent communication, I have never had a problem connecting with the school director in-person or via email. Teachers are always forthcoming and there are daily reports for each student telling you how much they ate, how long they napped, what type of bathroom trips they had and how they behaved. As parents, we love the community at Grasshopper Green and all the support they provide in nurturing a happy and healthy child. But as another reviewer said, it's more important that both of my kids love Grasshopper Green.

image Kenwood was the only school that would take my daughter for kindergarten because her birthday is after the Sept. 30th deadline of FCPS (and many privates). It a good place and it's convenient. It seems that when ever the weather got bad all the public schools were closed, but not Kenwood. For working parents, this is very helpful. Also, when the weather warms up there are organizations that come after school and teach 'fun stuff' - e.g. soccer. Yeah.... :-)
