image I have been a member of Calvary since 2016. It is home. The preaching and teaching is excellent, real and straight from God's Word. If you do not believe me, go listen to some sermons on the website. The church family loves on everyone so well. So thankful for this church!

image A warm and loving church family. Calvary Baptist Church has helped teach me to help others. The Bible based sermons are very encouraging to all.

image Save yourself the pain and avoid this Church! This Church Isn't Safe, it isn't Healthy, and it's not Godly. To give some context to this nightmarish, experience this past August I was in a mental health crisis and had decided to go to college to escape some bad memories and try moving forward with my life. Once at school in Anderson Indianna I was able to get some counseling help to talk through my depression and suicidal ideation. I was still depressed and had no friends. A person I'll call X, befriended me and told me about the church they went to. It was a Cavalry Baptist, and because I am an introvert and hate going to unfamiliar places I asked if I could go to their church with them. When I asked this they admitted that their church wasn't really a Cavalry Baptist church, but a nondenominational 9 Marks and Gospel Coalition church. I had never heard of these. I went for around two months and I learned that the 9 Marks churches are anything but healthy instead of a church home I had stumbled upon a strange authoritarian environment were the pastor played a role in arranging marriages for his followers. X told me they would marry someone at their pastors command. Without knowing them or anything. This church was a place were talking with fellow female church goers too much was seen as sinning. A church were a student from the college I go to (who was a harasser of female students) was warmly accepted and his actions largely ignored and laughed off as boys being boys business. If you were a member you were to attend every meeting and in turn communion would be part of your membership perk, (they seldom gave it to the non members, like Pharisees they love to judge others they deem unworthy and are afraid of who they cannot control.) That said if you're a member and fall out of line then you are condemned, shunned or excommunicated. This can be for something as small as missing one too many meetings ( I witnessed this). Members are "saved" so they have status over others and elders, pastors are seen as divinely appointed mouth pieces (because they say they were called by God). They command blind loyalty and total submission to their ideology, (not Gods, but they will say that it is and probably believe it). You have any serious theological questions or problems you are referred to the pastor because he is your "appointed shepherd" and does the sheeps thinking for them. They love reading scripture which isn't a bad thing necessarily, but they insist on literal interpretation which is fine, but the funny thing is their practices like shepherding, shunning, and the sanctioning of communion aren't scriptural... so in short 9Marks affiliates commit hypocrisy. Lastly never sign a membership contract with this church or any 9Marks church. I never did, but I was pressured too and it would have made life miserable. As the reader may imagine I did fall out with this this community and when I did, a member tried to gaslight me. They tried to make me believe I was the crazy one, and that I was an abusive person. So I'm telling the reader my experience as a warning, and a plea for caution. I am so happy I left this spiritually oppressive church. God Bless!

image This community of believers is warm and welcoming. The pastor takes time to help people who are struggling in their faith and he is very down to earth and caring. It is very evident that he spends much time on the study of Scripture and delivers the hope of the Gospel each Sunday. I feel safe asking questions, being real about my doubts and failures and sharing them with others knowing I will be met with compassion.
I have learned more about God's grace in the past couple of years at this church and am continually encouraged to hope in Christ and discover Him in the Scriptures.
And to put anyone's mind at ease who is concerned about arranged marriages at this church, I can say I've certainly never witnessed one in the two years I've been attending. LOL
I am proof that these simply don't happen. There are plenty of single ladies in their 20s or 30s in this church. I'm one of them. No one has arranged a marriage for me yet and it ain't never going to happen here. I guess it's time to sign up for Christian Mingle. :)
Also, being the sinner that I am, I've never been excommunicated or shunned. Come on folks, the church is made up of imperfect people. We are all in the same boat headed over a cliff without the grace and mercy of Christ. I am reminded of this grace each time I enter the doors of this church.
I hope many more will join us here at Calvary. Come when you can. No one is keeping tabs on you, unless the man snoring in the back pew is doing it discreetly while resting his eyelids.
Hope to see you here!
