Gringo's Notebook on Google

image Located in the heart of Midtown, up the street from the Cinemark Century 16 movie theater on 36th St., Table 6 is a restaurant in Anchorage, Alaska, possessing a menu chalked full of marvelous morsels. Here’s the menu description of their chicken pasta: Fresh locally made linguine, sautéed chicken, garlic cream sauce, peas, roasted mushrooms, and bacon. Now, it’s October in Anchorage which means its’s getting colder outside. With winter lurking just around the corner, the chicken pasta is the perfect dish to warm and fill you up on a cold night. Hungry yet?
Before I dive into dissecting the awesomeness of Table 6’s chicken pasta, let me paint a picture of their curious and playful interior decor. Large glass windows make up the restaurant’s facade allowing prospective customers to peer inside at the Table 6’s colorful walls adorned in quotes from various Dr. Seuss books. The owner of Table 6 must have an affinity for Dr. Seuss because the Cat In The Hat is painted on every wall. Incorporating Dr. Seuss as the central theme of the restaurant creates a whimsical and playful environment which certainly translates to the colorful presentation of their food. With so many tasty options to choose from - Shrimp & Grits, Blackened Chicken Curry, and Chicken Verde to name a few - I had a hard time settling on the chicken pasta. However, I’m happy I did.
The chicken pasta is well-balanced dish, packed with crazy flavor, bright colors, and a strong yet welcoming aroma of garlic emanating from the cream sauce. Whenever I go out to eat, I experience a palpable level of anxiety after ordering a meal from a menu containing no pictures. When it comes to food, I consider myself a visual person. About 60% of the time, I order food based on how it’s pictured on the menu. I’d prefer to see what a dish looks like - I.e., how it’s put together and overall presentation. The other 40% rests solely upon the physical description of a dish; according to the old adage, “if it looks good it tastes good.” It’s basically the food philosophy I live by 40% of the time. At Table 6, the chicken pasta is not pictured on the menu. I read the description of the dish - Fresh locally made linguine, sautéed chicken, garlic cream sauce, peas, roasted mushrooms and bacon - and made my choice (with a little help from my super friendly, personal, and charismatic server Katie). I’m elated to report I have no regrets.
The garlic cream sauce aroma is what hits you first. It’s a pleasantly pungent odor that isn’t heavy-handed on the garlic. The garlic flavor is subtle yet noticeable. The warm heaping mound of linguine pasta, cooked perfectly al dente, enhances the garlic aroma while simultaneously absorbing and blanketing itself in the cream sauce. The chicken is tender, succulent, and moist. Shavings of fresh parmesan cheese, atop the warm bed of pasta, adds a sharp and tangy bite. The best part about the chicken pasta is the peas. Without the peas (the unsung hero…kind of like Ringo Starr of The Beatles) I don’t think this the chicken pasta would be a cohesive and complete dish. The peas add brightness and freshness. Masterfully cooked, the peas aren’t mushy or dilapidated. Rather, they possess a nice crunchy snap functioning as a much needed texture contrast against the al dente pasta. The mushrooms incorporate a deep earthy, hearty, component while the bacon…well, let’s face it, everyone loves bacon. Bacon makes everything better, am I right?
If you find yourself hungry on a cold evening and are looking for something that’ll fill you up, without breaking the bank, and packed full of flavor head over to Table 6 and order the chicken pasta. Costing only $16.00, you really get the maximum bang for your buck considering the serving size which is rather large. Seriously, order the chicken pasta because it’s pretty freaking incredible. As a quick dessert recommendation, order the root beer float with vanilla ice cream. Katie - Table 6’s totally rad server - stated they make their own root beer in house. I'm a Barq's guy but Table 6's root beer is divine!

image Table 6 has a very nice menu and the staff is very knowledgeable about ingredients so I can avoid allergens. The blood orange martini is divine, and is my primary draw!
