One of the plant's mechanics gave me a tour, inside, as a prerequisite to applying for a line position. Smithfield processes raw materials. The odor will not remind you of fresh linen or lavendar! The degree of CLEANLINESS throughout the many stages of processing was, actually, quite surprising. Thanks for the tour and I'll take your word on getting over the smell! Charlene

Kinda driver friendly. Interesting place. Never been here before. I would probably come back. I programmed the address into my GPS. I drove down 62nd street from Washington street. Then GPS told me to take a right. Then I drove 200 yards and GPS told me to take a left on 61st. When I turned on 61st I saw a sign that said DEAD END. But I proceeded down that street because I saw drivers parked on the side. Smithfield was off to the left. Unfortunately, GPS took me to the office. So I turned around. Easy to do. There's a turn around spot at the end. I took a right at the stop sign. Then I took a right on 62nd street. In other words, drivers pull into the shipping yard off 62nd street. The moral of the story? The phone number to this place does not have an extension for shipping. Only one small sign at the entrance off 62nd. No instructions given to the place. So you're gonna rely on GPS. When I called this place no extension for shipping. When I called this place i hit the extension for the instructions on how to get to this place, and the recording wasn't working. Also, this area is industrial. Within a two mile radius there's plenty of parking. I came down Washington street from the freeway, and I turned right on 62nd street. I noticed on 62nd street theres a space to the right where you can park. Four or five trucks could park there. But it's kinda tight right to the edge. And the wrong idiot can hit you while you're sleeping. So if you get here the night before, follow your GPS to this place. Turn left on 61st street where the sign says DEAD END. Turn around at the DEAD END and park next to the curb. In other words, it's safer to park on 61st street next to the office. Then in the morning to get loaded you can drive straight and then you turn right at the stop sign. It's kinda tight due to the four wheelers ( employees ) parking in the street. Then take a right at the next stop sign which is 62nd street. Drive maybe 100 yards and turn right into shipping. Once again, park on 61st street for the night. Follow your GPS to this address when parking for the night. But to get into shipping you turn in off 62nd street. You can only access shipping from 62nd street. Right now it's 8:20am. My appointment is for 12:30pm. I'm the only driver here. After I checked in I was told a driver is ahead of me. I don't see this driver, but shipping said they'll come get me when they're ready for me. Like most places in America, it's hit and miss if you get loaded early or not. The shipping yard is kinda small. Easy back job if there's no drop trailers. UPDATE. Editing my review. It's 9:00am and I'm in the door getting loaded early. My appointment isn't until 12:30pm. But today is Friday. So I don't if that makes any difference.
