Holy moly!!! What a true hidden gem! Seriously this place has so much soul. Kevin was ridiculously kind to show us around and tell us about all the magic of the books and the art of literature itself. We learned so much about the place and got to also check out their really incredible book collection. Definitely suggest checking this spot out! I guess they also have Monday night events as well as drinks offered. Sincerely so glad we took the time to see it.

My friend and I went here on a Tuesday during lunch hour because we are both pretty big book fans. The location is definitely discreet and you have to go up a couple of floors to reach the main doors. The exterior of the building is quite modern but when you step inside the Book Club of California, it's like you have entered an entirely different century. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was how quiet it was. We later learned that during its open-to-the-public hours, anyone can come in and work or read, which is something I definitely want to take advantage of.The area also has a bunch of first editions of well-known books and a printing press. The book nerd in me totally geeked out. The Book Club of California is definitely worth a visit if you in the area, and isn't too far of a walk from the famous City Lights Bookstore.

I recently attended a reading at this very likable and aptly-named venue. The decor is comfy and old-school. Even the lectern is upholstered in brown leather with studs such as you might see in an old courtroom or traditional Mexican restaurant. Shelves of collector's editions line the walls. The glass cases house temporary exhibits. For example, I enjoyed an exhibit of art deco memorabilia. It's agreeable to get a glass of wine at the bar, sit on the sofa and discuss books.

A California publishing non-profit founded c.1920's with Western Americana focus on events, people in mil lieu of fine book printing & typeface press publishing. Membership organization, however public welcome to view 'Exhibits' on display most weekdays, Mon - Fri. A treasure trove of exceptional tomes from California writers and Bay Area literary "scene" personalities - line their Library shelves. Worth a drop in visit
