Yonkers is located in the southern part of the state of New York, and in the Westchester County. The city as first founded in 1646 and was incorporated as a city in 1872. The current Mayor is Philip A. Amicone (R). According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2000, the estimated population is almost two hundred thousand in an area consisting of twenty square miles. These numbers make it the fourth most populous city in the state of New York. Yonkers sits on the edge of a New York City borough, the Bronx, and is roughly two miles from the island of Manhattan.
