Al's Opals Imports & Lapidary

I was really excited to find this place, as my opal is on desperate need of a good polish...came and no one is answering the bell, doors have big locks on them, and the phone seems to be disconnected :(

Awesome "gem" of a spot, no pun intended, in San Diego. I see some lower reviews based on the appearance of the storefront, but I see a low overhead and the ability to pass on those savings to the customer. Thank you, Al, for providing opal lovers a great and affordable place to shop!

This is a sketchy run down place with old display cases filled with gemstones and opals.The opals were nice. They cost $100-$300.

I just came home from Al's today where I picked up three custom made rings-stones that I've had for years on display at home. I also picked up my large opal ring that had cracked in an accident. The opal was one of many that I purchased from Al in the early 1980's. I am thrilled to be able to see and speak with him and his lovely and gracious daughter Maria. This a a special place where you'll find a gentleman who at 97 years of age is making beautiful pieces. I treasure my rings. May God watch over him and his loving family.
