South Bend, Indiana is the fourth largest city in the state, with a population of over one hundred thousand in the city and three hundred thousand people in the metropolitan area.  South Bend resides in the St. Joseph County, and acts the County Seat.

South Bend is probably most recognized as the home of University of Notre Dame, which also happens to be the largest employer in the county with almost five thousand employees.  Companies like St. Joe Valley are trying to boost the local economy and bring high tech companies to the area by attempting to establish an inexpensive telecommunications network.  The South Bend Museum, established in 1996, is located in the downtown area and is host to several local artists from South Bend and the Michiana area.  The city is also the home of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Association, which was established in 1973 and is the sponsor  of the largest chamber music competition.
