The Radio Station Industry

The industry includes companies that broadcast radio programs and music to the public. This involved religious, commercial, and educational programming that is broadcasted over the radio to the masses. The National Association of Broadcasters was created to advocate on behalf of radio and television stations. The industry is pretty consolidated because large companies like Clear Channel Communications out of San Antonio have bought a lot of radio stations. Check out radio stations in San Antonio, Texas.

Trends in the Industry

Radio stations have been hurting in the past couple of years because of how fast technology has advanced. Other products such as MP3 players, HD radio and satellite radio have, in some cases, caused free broadcast radio to take a back-seat to newer forms of entertainment. In the past decade, the FCC has tightened restrictions as to the content that is allowed to be broadcasted over the radio. The days of shock jocks being able to provide questionable content are over and many of them have switch to satellite radio where they are less regulated. Orlando radio stations are still very popular because of the large amount of tourist traffic that flows through the city.
