Paoli Hospital is investing $11 million to bring its maternity department into the modern era. The renovation includes the construction of 12 labor and delivery suites, 4 triage rooms, 24 private rooms, a level II neonatal IC unit, and expanding the nursery.

Along with the renovations and expansions, each patient room will also be updated. Delivery rooms will get new beds that allow mothers to assume any position they wish to birth, which could cut down on the need for interventions. There will also be the addition of two operating rooms that will be used for Cesareans only.
The update is slated for completion sometime at the end of 2013, but patient care and rooms will still be available throughout all periods of construction.
The upgrades are being performed also to accommodate the expected increase in births. The hospital currently delivers 2,300 babies a year but they expect to deliver 2,900 by 2019.
