Park City is actually discovered by early Mormon practitioners while they are on their way to what is now known as Salt Lake City. It is originally called ‘Parley’s Park City’, named after the Mormon leader that explored it in 1848. However, it is shortened to its present name in the early 1900s. Park City became famous as a mining area for its abundance in silver, gold and lead, up until the First World War when the price of silver severely dropped and the whole town is almost destroyed by fire.

Despite the grim end of the town’s main livelihood, Park City became famous again and this time as a destination for tourists who are into skiing and snowboarding. In fact, Park City even became the venue of the 2002 Winter Olympics and is more accessible compared to any other skiing locations in the Salt Lake County. Aside from that, Park City is hailed as one of the prettiest cities in the US. These are just some of the reasons why tourists frequent it, with numbers that even exceed the population of the city. Tourism now plays a large role in the economy of Park City and of Utah.

Another interesting about Park City is that it has a total area of 45.50km, but there are no bodies of water that cover a big or small part of the area. Rather, the city is surrounded by mountains in all directions. And being one of the best skiing grounds, the climate in Park City only reaches up to 90 degrees during the summer when nights still go chilly and drops below 0 during the winter.

Park City also serves as the original home the Mrs. Fields Famous Brands and the location shoot of several Hollywood movies like Daddy Day Care, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer and Troll 2.
