Palmdale, California is located in Los Angeles County and is the first community to incorporate from the Antelope Valley in 1962. The population is over 151,000 residents and the city's community is known to be family-oriented. Palmdale features the Palmdale Regional Medical Center, a first-class medical facility set to open in 2010. Also some of the other city funded projects have included the Palmdale Amphitheater, new parks and recreation facilities and DryTown Water Park.
The city is undergoing a development of bike paths for cycling throughout the city limits. The cost of the project was included in part of a twenty million dollar improvement project to the highway system.
Palmdale is known as the "aerospace capital of the United states." The city has been host to the development, research and flight testing for NASA Space Shuttles. It is also home to corporate operations of Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Northrop Grumman. The Aero Institute of the Palmdale Institute of Technology is operated by NASA in the Civic Center of Palmdale. The Institute offers distance learning to such universities as USC and Cal Poly Pomona. The Aero Institute offers education in aerospace science for graduate and undergraduate degrees.
The economy of Palmdale relies heavily on the aerospace industry but also has industry focus in manufacturing. Companies have relocated their manufacturing warehouses to Palmdale because of its close relation to Palmdale Airport. The companies also benefit from special tax breaks.
