Naperville features a four mile long walk-way called the Naperville Riverwalk along the DuPage River's west branch. The construction of the walkway began in 1981 to commemorate Naperville's Sesquicentennial anniversary. The "Crown Jewel" of Naperville, the walk-way features scenic bridges, benches, fountains and the Riverwalk amphitheater for its travelers to enjoy.
Downtown Naperville is host to the North Central College campus on Chicago Avenue. The college is situated on 59 acres and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
In April 1946 the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad had two of its trains crash making Naperville one of the worst sites of a train accident in Chicagoland history. The trains collided killing 45 and injuring more than a thousand people.
