Industry Information about Motels
The motel and/or hotel industry played a crucial role in the development of trade, travel and commerce in the United States. In supplying everything from a one-night accommodation while on the road, to a weeklong stay at a five-star hotel for a meeting or large corporate event, the remarkably varied services that American motels offer have made the hotel/motel industry continuously important.  According to the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), the industry's profits total close to $103.6 billion annually.

Recent Trends in Motels
Hotels as we know them today developed quickly as the major cities grew. The short-term and long-term lodging began with motels in Boston and New York City Motels. The 73-room City Hotel at 115 Broadway in New York City was completed in 1794, and similar establishments were quickly following in Boston, and Baltimore. The number of hotels increased significantly in the 1800s, as hotels moved westward. With each new hotel, came a new service being added, resulting in forcing existing hotels to change for the better.
