Macon is the prior site of Fort Benjamin Hawkins which was a fort used in the War of 1812 as a distribution point for the military. The original fort has sense burned to the ground but a replica stands today in east Macon.

The International Cherry Blossom Festival is held every year during the middle of March. It is held at the height of the blossoming of the cherry trees and it is a 10 day celbration of arts and crafts, concerts, shows, parades, dances and food.
