Irvine is an incorporated city in the state of California. It was planned and developed in the 1960s by the Irvine Company. As of 2009, Irvine has a population of roughly 212,793 and was chosen as the fourth best place to live in the nation by CNNMoney.com in 2008. Each township contain similar housing structures, commercial centers, schools and religious institutions. Lake Irvine and the Irvine Ranch lay close to the city center and are very popular during the warmer months for day trips and vacations. The University of California,Irvine (UCI), the Orange County Center of the University of Southern California, Concordia University, and Pepperdine University all call Irvine home, and contribute to the overall tranquility of the area. The city is ranked 7th for having the highest percentage of people 25 years of age or older with doctoral degrees in 2000 by the United State Census. Irvine is a very green city, with over 50 parks in the area. It has Community Parks and Neighborhood Parks. Community Parks have public facilities on each site, whereas Neighborhood Parks only provide open space and some recreational amenities.
