The Internet Service Providers Industry

The internet service providers industry consists of about 11,000 companies averaging annual revenues of over $500 billion. The industry is highly concentrated with the 50 largest companies having 90 percent of the market. VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) is a relatively new technology, becoming popular in the past decade. The companies are competing heavily for customers and make their money by branding themselves. VOIP in Miami, FL and other big cities is gaining popularity because it can be bundled with other services.

Trends in the Industry

Leading companies in the industry like Brighthouse Networks make their profits by staying technologically ahead of the game and adding new services as the  technology becomes available. The successful operations of the companies depend on them building, upgrading and maintaining their businesses in the industry. There were some problems surrounding VOIP in Chicago, Illionois and other highly populated cities because 911 calls made from VOIP phones did not have locations attached to them so emergency response services were having trouble finding the callers.
