Industry Overview
Exercise equipment and the Fitness industry have become as important as healthcare. The two are actually related in a way. Many doctors believe that daily exercise, in some form, can prevent illnesses that are stress related. Rowing machines, treadmills, weights, stationary bicycles, elliptical trainers, stair climbers and other equipment are found in dens, basements and spare bedrooms across America.
Going to the gym after work is not only a way to keep fit, but it has become a social venue for many. The problems arise when equipment is not available for use. The FDA has not yet regulated manufacturers of exercise equipment. Some equipment can be classified as medical equipment. The industry boasts of better than $3 billion annually.
It is only natural that some areas would have more sales in exercise equipment than others. In Los Angeles, exercise equipment is a must have because image is everything. Exercise equipment in Seattle is used when the rain keeps people from outdoor activities.
