Dan Mangeot: Allstate Insurance

I've had Allstate for 30 yrs, 18 of that back here in Louisville, after I retired from the USAF. According to Allstate's math, my $200k 1500 sf house needs to be insured for $331,500(wouldn't that be a nice big house?), with $250k personal property protection(say what?), for a single male with no children, but yet I didn't have the coverage I needed for a sump pump not working recently because electric was out for 2 1/2 days, and got about 7" of water in my entire basement. I'm sorry to say that some agents will gladly take your money for years, but not all will ensure you have the best protection for all of your property, like I'm finding out other agents at other companies will. I understand why it takes years and testing for an agent to understand policies and get a license, but yet a homeowner is supposed to understand what an agent does, but ignorant me thought I was paying for my agents "knowledge" and "integrity" as well? I thought I was in good hands, up until recently, when I found out the hard way I was not! If I knew then what I know now, I would not have trusted my agent to be no more than an insurance salesman, instead of a licensed agent who would ensure I had what I consider full coverage for ALL the incidentals for my property. Live and learn, the hard way sometimes!!

Thanks for all the help and personal assistance I received. It gave me the reassurance I needed. Also loved the dog who greeted me at the door.
