The Power of Your Brand

By: Brent Barnhart on Thursday, March 17, 20110 Comments
How strong is your brand? Before answering, think about brands such as Apple, Target, and Nike. When we think of such giants, we immediately recognize their names, but we also immediately think of the bitten apple, the red target, and the swish. These huge names are synonymous with their equally popular logos, which are plastered all over billboards and promotions all over the world. We’re constantly aware of them because we are constantly seeing them, and because of this, we’ll always remember them.

Now, think about what people may think of when they hear your business' name or see your business’ logo. Drawing a blank? Don’t have a clue? You don’t have to panic, but you should be thinking about ways you can strengthen your business brand and make sure customers see you, remember you, and keep coming back. A powerful brand is the backbone of a powerful business, no matter what your company does. So what steps can you take?

First and foremost is the importance of your logo. A good logo will catch the attention of those seeing it, meanwhile also remaining representative and unique to your business. Chances are you aren’t a graphic designer yourself, so utilizing a logo design service is a great idea for those looking to create an effective logo with some creative flair. Once that logo is established, do whatever you can to put it out in the open. Whether it’s on magnets, mugs, t-shirts or whatever else you can print on, there are plenty of creative ways to get your brand out in your local market. Business cards are perhaps an obvious solution, but they also serve as one of the most effective. Something as simple as providing buyers with a business card after they’ve made their purchase can do well to create returning customers.

As your brand and logo are making their way through your local markets, it’s equally important to make sure that your brand is present on the web. Assuming you have a website (and certainly should), be sure that your professionally designed logo is featured prominently and fits in with the theme and scheme of your site. Also be sure that your brand and logo are present and consistent among your Social Media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. The more you’re seen, the more you’ll be recognized. Making sure your brand is consistent across the web also assures visitors that they’re in the right place. Generic business names and logos are easy to confuse and are often forgettable, but a consistent, strong brand will stick with your audience.

By having a memorable, distinctive brand and logo, your business will be well on its way to beating out your less recognizable competition. While you may not quite be an Apple or a Target, a strong brand will make sure your business stand out in the crowd.
