Situated between Los Angeles and Fresno, the city of Bakersfield is located in Kern County in California.  Approximately 333,000 residents live within this inland city's borders, making it the 11th most populous municipality in the state.  It's local economy is focused primarily on the manufacturing, agriculture and petroleum industries.  It is perhaps most commonly known for the major earthquake that struck the area in 1952, killing four people and permanently destroying much of the town's historic district.

While the city has no professional football team, the sport of football is tremendously popular.  In lieu of an NFL franchise, residents consistently come out to cheer on the Bakersfield High School which has a exceptional record for victory.
