Akron is a major city in Ohio and is the county seat of Summit County. It is located in the Northeast corner of the state with an estimated population of 207,510 according to the 2008 census. It is the primary city of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area, which covers Portage and Summit counties. It was founded in 1825 and has since become a large manufacturing center due to its close distance to the locks. 
Akron is nicknamed the "Rubber Capital of the World" for the importance the city had in the history of the rubber industry. The rubber industry first started in the 1800s, gained steam in the early 1900s and by 1935 it was given the nickname from the establishment of The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Rubber was such an influential resource that it became a  major tourist attraction in the city known as The Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, the former mansion of Frank Seiberling, founder of Goodyear.
