So, I found myself at Fantasyland the other day, and I gotta tell ya, what I experienced has been eating at me. I was actually there when the other reviewer mentioned that unsettling moment, and frankly, it was one of those times you wish you misheard, but sadly, I didn't. Hearing Mercedes laugh and chat about a serious tragedy that took place there last year was jarring enough. But then, to overhear her making a joke about how that incident somehow boosted their business? That's a level of insensitivity I can't wrap my head around. It's as if the gravity of losing a life, someone's friend, someone's family, was lost on her. And to joke about it in such a casual, almost boastful manner? It's beyond disrespectful. Being in that store, looking for a bit of an escape or maybe a laugh, turned into a reminder that sometimes, the places we go to for a break from reality don't always get what makes a community. Hearing that conversation, it didn't just make me uncomfortable; it made me rethink where I spend my time and money. It's not just about bad service or an off-putting encounter. It's deeper than that. It's about basic human decency, about understanding that some things are bigger than us, bigger than a momentary increase in business. It's about remembering that at the core of every tragedy is a person, a life that mattered. I'm sharing this because it's important to know that our words carry weight, our actions shape experiences, and at the end of the day, how we treat each other, especially in times of loss, defines us. I hope, moving forward, there's a bit more compassion and thoughtfulness in the way we all navigate through these spaces. -

I need to talk about something that happened at FantasyLand, which left me really upset. I was there recently, and I couldn't believe what I heard from one of the staff members, Mercedes. It's about something really personal and painful, so I'm just going to lay it out there. Last year, a good friend of mine passed away, and it happened right at this store, he was shot. It was a shock to all of us, and honestly, we're still trying to wrap our heads around it. So, you can imagine how I felt when I overheard Mercedes laughing and making light of the incident. It just felt like a punch in the gut. There's a way to talk about things, especially something as serious as this, and laughing it off isn't it. It's disrespectful and just plain wrong. I wasn't expecting to have to deal with something like this when I walked in. I was looking for a bit of normalcy, maybe even a distraction. Instead, I got a reminder of how people can be thoughtless and insensitive. I'm sharing this because I think it's important for everyone to remember that words have weight. We've all got to be a bit more careful about what we say and how we say it, especially when it comes to something as serious as someone's passing. And for a place like Fantasy Land, I really hope they take this to heart. A bit of empathy and understanding goes a long way, especially in helping people feel welcome and respected.
